Our Classes
Film & Video Production

Students will explore all the facets of filmmaking with guidance from industry professionals, combined with hands-on experience using professional equipment. The program covers visual storytelling, scriptwriting, lighting, cinematography, audio & editing.
By semester’s end, students will complete a music video and short film, gaining both practical experience and insightful feedback to refine their work.
Acting for Film

This class introduces young actors to the essentials of on-camera acting, focusing on techniques for performing in film and TV. Students will explore how to portray authentic characters, understand camera angles, and adapt their stage presence to the screen.
Through fun exercises, scene work, and recorded performances, they’ll learn how to engage with scripts, deliver dialogue naturally, and navigate the unique challenges of film acting. Suitable for beginners and those with some acting experience.
Music Theory

This class is a beginner-friendly class that covers the basics of reading music, rhythm, and key signatures, preparing students for private lessons, band, or orchestra. Through hands-on, interactive activities, kids will engage with music theory in a fun and accessible way.
No prior knowledge is required—just a passion for learning! Each session ends with a 5-minute "share time" for students to showcase their progress or ask questions. For older students (12+), the focus shifts to more advanced concepts like chord progressions and composition, providing deeper insight into music theory and application.
Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Ages 12 & Up

The vocal jazz ensemble offers singers a chance to grow as musicians while exploring vocal jazz. Focus areas include jazz tone, style, improvisation, advanced timing, and performance techniques. Students will rehearse blending, dynamics, intonation, and stage presence.
Repertoire will feature iconic groups like The Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices, as well as contemporary arrangers such as Michele Weir and Greg Jasperse.
Songwriting

This beginner-friendly course guides young songwriters through the process of creating their own song, from brainstorming to writing lyrics and melodies. Students will collaborate, learning key skills to continue writing on their own in a fun, supportive environment.
For older students (12+) this course dives deeper into lyric and rhythm writing, helping them discover their unique voice. Students analyze popular songs, develop creative freedom, and refine their craft in a more advanced, engaging setting. Perfect for both beginners and those looking to grow.
Chamber Music

In our Instrumental Chamber Music Program, students delve deep into the art of communication and expression, connecting musically with their peers.
Students will engage in a musical dialogue, passing phrases and ideas back and forth, seamlessly shifting between leading and following. As they work together, students embark on a collective musical journey that develops crucial skills like listening, teamwork, compassion, responsibility, and problem-solving.

Film & Video Production

Film Production (12 & Up)
Mondays – 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Dive into the world of filmmaking with our advanced Film Production class designed for students ages 12 and up. Led by industry professionals Matt Matossian, Jenn Padham, and Andrina Wolff, this hands‑on course covers the full production pipeline:

Story & Script Development: Learn how to craft compelling narratives, concept storyboards and write dynamic shooting scripts.

Cinematography & Lighting: Work with professional cameras and lighting setups to create cinematic visuals.

Sound Recording & Design: Capture clean dialogue and wild sound, and explore basic foley and audio post-production techniques.

Directing & Crew Collaboration: Assume various roles from director to cinematographer, and build teamwork in a film crew.

Editing & Post‑Production: Use industry-standard editing tools to piece your footage together and polish the final cut.
By the end of the session, students will have completed their own short film, showcasing their storytelling, technical, and creative skills. Perfect for young filmmakers ready to take their craft to the next level. No experience necessary, just a passion for movies and telling great stories.
Film Production (Ages 8–11)
Tuesdays – 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
An exciting introduction to the magic of filmmaking for younger creators. This age-appropriate Film Production class invites students (ages 8–11) to explore:

Storytelling Fundamentals: Craft simple stories and characters.

On‑set Experience: Learn how a film set works, including basic camera work, lighting, and directing.

Sound & Music Integration: Record dialogue and fun sound effects, then mix them with music.
