Our Classes

Film & Video Production

By semester’s end, students will complete a music video and short film, gaining both practical experience and insightful feedback to refine their work.

Acting for Film

This class introduces young actors to the essentials of on-camera acting, focusing on techniques for performing in film and TV. Students will explore how to portray authentic characters, understand camera angles, and adapt their stage presence to the screen.

Through fun exercises, scene work, and recorded performances, they’ll learn how to engage with scripts, deliver dialogue naturally, and navigate the unique challenges of film acting. Suitable for beginners and those with some acting experience.

Music Theory

This class is a beginner-friendly class that covers the basics of reading music, rhythm, and key signatures, preparing students for private lessons, band, or orchestra. Through hands-on, interactive activities, kids will engage with music theory in a fun and accessible way.

No prior knowledge is required—just a passion for learning! Each session ends with a 5-minute "share time" for students to showcase their progress or ask questions. For older students (12+), the focus shifts to more advanced concepts like chord progressions and composition, providing deeper insight into music theory and application.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Ages 12 & Up

The vocal jazz ensemble offers singers a chance to grow as musicians while exploring vocal jazz. Focus areas include jazz tone, style, improvisation, advanced timing, and performance techniques. Students will rehearse blending, dynamics, intonation, and stage presence.

Repertoire will feature iconic groups like The Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices, as well as contemporary arrangers such as Michele Weir and Greg Jasperse.

Songwriting

This beginner-friendly course guides young songwriters through the process of creating their own song, from brainstorming to writing lyrics and melodies. Students will collaborate, learning key skills to continue writing on their own in a fun, supportive environment.

For older students (12+) this course dives deeper into lyric and rhythm writing, helping them discover their unique voice. Students analyze popular songs, develop creative freedom, and refine their craft in a more advanced, engaging setting. Perfect for both beginners and those looking to grow.

Chamber Music

In our Instrumental Chamber Music Program, students delve deep into the art of communication and expression, connecting musically with their peers.

Students will engage in a musical dialogue, passing phrases and ideas back and forth, seamlessly shifting between leading and following. As they work together, students embark on a collective musical journey that develops crucial skills like listening, teamwork, compassion, responsibility, and problem-solving.

Film & Video Production

Students will explore all the facets of filmmaking with guidance from industry professionals, combined with hands-on experience using professional equipment. The program covers visual storytelling, scriptwriting, lighting, cinematography, audio & editing. By semester’s end, students will complete four projects, gaining both practical experience and insightful feedback to refine their work.

Film Production (12 & Up)
Mondays – 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Dive into the world of filmmaking with our advanced Film Production class designed for students ages 12 and up. Led by industry professionals Matt Matossian, Jenn Padham, and Andrina Wolff, this hands‑on course covers the full production pipeline:

Story & Script Development: Learn how to craft compelling narratives, concept storyboards and write dynamic shooting scripts.
Cinematography & Lighting: Work with professional cameras and lighting setups to create cinematic visuals.
Sound Recording & Design: Capture clean dialogue and wild sound, and explore basic foley and audio post-production techniques.
Directing & Crew Collaboration: Assume various roles from director to cinematographer, and build teamwork in a film crew.
Editing & Post‑Production: Use industry-standard editing tools to piece your footage together and polish the final cut.

By the end of the session, students will have completed their own short film, showcasing their storytelling, technical, and creative skills. Perfect for young filmmakers ready to take their craft to the next level. No experience necessary, just a passion for movies and telling great stories.

Film Production (Ages 8–11)
Tuesdays – 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

An exciting introduction to the magic of filmmaking for younger creators. This age-appropriate Film Production class invites students (ages 8–11) to explore:

Storytelling Fundamentals: Craft simple stories and characters.
On‑set Experience: Learn how a film set works, including basic camera work, lighting, and directing.
Sound & Music Integration: Record dialogue and fun sound effects, then mix them with music.
Collaborative Filmmaking: Work in small teams to shoot short scenes and setups.
Beginner Editing Skills: Use industry standard editing software to assemble your scenes.

By the end of the class, each student will contribute to a fun, collaborative short film, learning the basics of visual storytelling and teamwork in a supportive, creative environment.

Acting for Film

This exciting course is designed for young aspiring actors who are ready to step in front of the camera and explore the world of on-screen performance. Students will learn film acting techniques through fun, confidence building exercises, scene study, character development, and camera work in a supportive, creative environment. With a focus on listening, reacting, and being present in the moment, students will discover how acting for film can differ from stage performance and gain the skills needed to feel comfortable and confident on camera and on a set.

In an effort to broaden their knowledge and experiences, the students will write original material for showcases presented to the community and their own short films that will work in collaboration with The Filmmaking Students at Forge 28. To prepare for that, each student will have opportunities to film scenes and watch their work back to reflect and improve.

Wednesdays - 5:30-6:30

Young performers will explore imaginative storytelling, facial expression, and emotional truth through guided scene work and playful, yet productive exercises. This age group focuses on building confidence, learning to follow direction, basic audition skills, and discovering how to bring characters to life in a natural, believable way for the camera.

Acting for Film (Ages 10–13) Tracey Dunivan

Wednesdays - 6:30-7:30

This group will dive deeper into script work, character development, and subtle on-screen techniques. Students will explore audition dos and don'ts, analyzing audition sides, practice short scenes on camera, and receive feedback to help them grow as screen actors. Emphasis will be placed on clear communication, individuality, and making effective, bold choices as they bring their characters to life. The ongoing course is highly recommended for the young performing artist who wants to be well prepared for any acting opportunity that might come their way!

Acting for Film (Ages 13 & up) Emilee Dupre

Thursdays - 3:30-4:30

This class is designed for teens ready to refine their on-camera acting skills through focused scene work, script analysis, and character development. Students will work with audition sides and short scenes on camera, learning to make honest, grounded choices that translate effectively on screen. Emphasis is placed on subtlety, clarity, and confidence in front of the lens, with individualized feedback to support each actor’s growth.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Wednesdays 7:30pm - 8:30pm

Step into the world of close harmonies, swing rhythms, and smooth scat singing in this dynamic ensemble class. Students will explore jazz standards and contemporary charts while honing blend, phrasing, and improvisation skills under the guidance of a seasoned director.

Weekly rehearsals focus on tight group vocals, microphone technique, and solo opportunities, culminating in a polished performance at the end of the session. Ideal for singers with prior choral or voice experience who are ready to groove and grow in a collaborative setting!

Songwriting

Beginner Songwriting (Ages 8 - 12)

This introductory class is perfect for young musicians and writers who are curious about creating their own original music. Students will explore the basics of songwriting in a fun, supportive environment, learning how to craft lyrics, develop melodies, and structure a song from start to finish.

Through guided writing exercises, listening activities, and collaborative brainstorming, students will gain the tools and confidence to begin expressing themselves through song. Whether you're writing your first verse or discovering how music and words work together, this class is a great starting point for any aspiring songwriter.

No prior experience with instruments or music theory is required, just a love of music and a willingness to try something new! By the end of the session, students will have written an original piece, with the option to perform or record their work.

Songwriting: Next Level (Ages 11 - Up)
For Teen Songwriters Ready to Refine Their Craft

Tuesdays 5:30pm - 6:30pm

This class is designed for teen musicians and lyricists who have some songwriting experience and are ready to take their work to the next level. Students will dive deeper into the craft of songwriting, exploring advanced lyrical techniques, melodic development, song structure, and emotional storytelling.

Through guided exercises, peer collaboration, and individual feedback, students will strengthen their unique voice and begin developing a personal songwriting style. The class will also explore popular songwriting forms across genres, the basics of chord progressions, and how to use their instrument or voice as a writing tool.

By the end of the session, students will have written an original piece, with the option to perform or record their work. Recommended for students who have taken a beginner songwriting class or have prior experience writing songs.

Exploratory Art

Pre-School Art with Corrie Ages 2.5 - 4

Thursdays 4:30pm - 5:15pm

In this engaging preschool art class, young learners explore creativity while developing important fine and gross motor skills through activities like painting, drawing, cutting, gluing, and sculpting. Children are encouraged to express themselves individually, making unique choices in color, shape, and materials that reflect their ideas and feelings.

They learn basic color mixing, discovering how primary colors blend to create new ones, and explore texture using a variety of materials such as fabric, cardboard, and clay. Simple introductions to art history expose children to famous artists and styles in a fun, age-appropriate way, fostering early appreciation for visual arts, imagination, and self-expression.

Let your child’s imagination run wild in this hands-on art class designed to introduce young artists to a variety of materials, techniques, and creative concepts! Our Beginner Exploratory Art program is all about discovery. This class takes a deeper skill-building with an introduction to more advanced tools and creative challenges. Students will experiment with drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media, and more, while learning the building blocks of visual art.

Each week offers a new project that encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and artistic confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Corrie brings warmth, creativity, and years of experience to the classroom making each session inspiring and engaging for students of all levels. Whether your child is a budding artist or simply loves to get messy and make things, this class is the perfect starting point for creative expression!

Sketch & Spin

Sketch & Spin with Lisa – Jr. Edition ( Ages 5-9)

Tuesdays - 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Get ready for a magical adventure where music and art come together! In this fun and imaginative class, young artists will use their sketchbooks to explore color, shapes, and stories, all inspired by music they love! Each week, we’ll listen to songs from Disney movies, favorite kids’ soundtracks, and joyful tunes on real vinyl records, and let those sounds guide our drawings.

Whether we’re swirling with Elsa, drumming with Moana, or dancing with Encanto, kids will discover how music can spark creativity and bring their artwork to life. We’ll draw what we hear, imagine big, and have a blast along the way. Perfect for young artists who love music, stories, and making colorful messes. No experience needed, just bring your imagination!

Sketch & Spin with Lisa (Ages 10 - 14)

Get ready to vibe, draw, and let the music move your pencil! In this totally unique and immersive art class, we’ll dive into your sketchbook and let music past and present inspire every line, splash, and doodle. Each session features real vinyl records spinning on the turntable as we explore rhythm, emotion, and self-expression through art.

From groovy 70s soul to throwback 80s beats and today’s chart-toppers, you’ll sketch what you feel, not just what you see. Whether you’re into abstract art, characters, or bold color work there’s something for everyone. Turn up the creativity and let’s sketch and spin!

Crochet Workshops

Crochet Workshop (Ages 8-11)

Wednesdays - 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Join us for a creative and cozy crochet journey! This beginner-friendly workshop series is designed for kids and tweens/teens who want to learn the art of crochet in a fun, relaxed environment. Participants will explore foundational crochet skills, including how to hold a hook, chain stitch, single and double crochet, and reading beginner patterns.

Each session focuses on hands-on learning and project-building, with age-appropriate pacing and guidance. Every student will leave the series with a completed project and a crochet kit they can keep using at home!

All materials are included, and no prior experience is necessary.

Crochet Workshops (Ages 12 & up)

Take your crochet skills to the next level with this creative and skill-building workshop series designed for teens and preteens ready for more detail-oriented projects. Whether you’re picking up a hook for the first time or have some experience under your belt, this class offers a balance of guided instruction and creative freedom to bring your own designs to life.

Participants will refine core techniques, learn how to read and adapt more complex patterns, and explore creative stitches, textures, and finishing methods. Each session encourages personal expression, students can choose from project options or design their own with support from the instructor.

All materials are included, and each student will finish the series with a completed project and a crochet kit to keep creating at home.
